Hair Bun Tutorial

This hair bun tutorial uses a sock to get that perfect round doughnut shape. it is a really quick and easy hair look that you can pull off for any occasion especially if you need to have a decent hairstyle. It is the perfect look for work, school or something more fancy and you can decorate with hair clips, head bands or anything else to make it more suitable for your occasion. If you have an actual hair doughnut it can be used as well, alternatively if you are like me and do not have one of them, a sock works just fine.

You will need a clean sock. It doesn't matter if it is a different colour to your hair but it needs to be a basic every day sock. The one that I used was an old school sock. Cut the toes off of it to use it for this tutorial. Or you could use a hair doughnut like I mentioned. You'll also need two hair bands, hairspray and a hairbrush.

Before I start the tutorial, you need to have at least shoulder length hair other wise it won't work. If you hair is longer and thicker you will have a bigger bun so bear that in mind. The sock that I used was probably half a centimeter thick so that will affect the thickness of the bun as well.

Begin by brushing your hair into a high ponytail and secure it tightly with one of the hair band.

Roll the sock into a doughnut shape and put it around the hair band of the ponytail and pull towards the end of the hair.

Roll the hair around the sock and keep rolling until it reaches the head. Keep pulling the hair tight as you roll the sock down.

Wrap any loose bits of hair around the bun and secure the entire bun with the other hair band.

Finish off with some hairspray to keep it in place.
Decorate with any desired accessories. I used a butterfly clip I had laying around and it looks really pretty.
