Battle of the Smokey - Naked vs Iconic

Today's post is a quick comparison of the Urban Decay 'Naked Smokey' palette, £38, versus the newer Makeup Revolution 'Iconic Smokey' palette, £6.

Starting with the packaging, both the palettes are boxed. The one main difference with the design on the packaging is that the Makeup Revolution palette has a smoke pattern through the name whereas Urban Decay has smoke on the background.
The Urban Decay palette has the same smoke pattern on the case, however Makeup Revolution's case is their staple black plastic case.
Inside the palette, both the palettes have named shades; there is a clear sheet over the eyeshadows in the Makeup Revolution palette but the Urban Decay palette has the names underneath each eye shadow. Also in the bottom of each palette is a duo ended brush.
Both the palettes contain 12 shades which are pretty much the same shades and both palettes have the same finishes.
Top - Makeup Revolution, Bottom - Urban Decay
Shimmer Shadows
Makeup Revolution: Light, Glow, Stained and Erupt
Urban Decay: High, Dirtysweet, Radar and Armor
 Satin Shadows

Makeup Revolution: Silvery, Smoke, Shadow, Haze
Urban Decay: Slanted, Dagger, Black Market, Smolder
 Matte Shadows
Makeup Revolution: Steam, Rubble, Flicker, Exhale
Urban Decay: Password, Whiskey, Combust, Thirteen
While I think the Makeup Revolution shadows are good quality, the Urban Decay shadows have a nicer level of opacity, pigmentation and are a lot less crumbly and are a lot smoother in consistency. Judging from the swatches, the shades are pretty much exact with similar textures and finishes.
The brushes in both palettes have their similarities and differences, for example both have a round tip end for fluffing and blending out shades. With the Naked Smokey brush, the other end is a pencil brush whereas it is a flat shadow brush on the other end of the Makeup Revolution brush.
The Urban Decay Naked Smokey Palette retails at £38, however if you are looking for a cheaper alternative then the Makeup Revolution palette costs just £6. In comparison, of course the Naked Smokey palette is better but at a fraction of the price, this is a really great alternative if you're not willing to spend that much on a palette. Personally, I prefer the Urban Decay Naked Smokey palette as the eye shadows are just that little bit nicer.

Have you tried either of these palettes?
