Barry M vs Makeup Revolution // Battle of the Lip Kits

You've probably heard of the Kylie Jenner Lip Kits and now we are beginning to see more affordable alternatives from drugstore brands. Today I am comparing the Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit in Pose to the Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit in Reign. I have already done a review on the Makeup Revolution kit which you can find here.

Inside both of these kits you get a lip pencil to outline and define your lips. Both lip liners look the same in the sense that they have black packaging and have a little colour swatch at the end of each of them.
Both lip liners are very creamy in consistency and opaque in pigmentation. The Makeup Revolution lip liner didn't tug or pull at my lips and glided on, however it feels drying. The Barry M Lip Liner seemed to take a bit more effort to apply, however it is a really nice colour and wears comfortably.
On the left is the Makeup Revolution lip liner in Reign and the right one is the Barry M Lip Liner in Pose. Pose is a nicer colour which is warmer toned nude pink whereas Reign is a bit more of a salmon tone.
The kits also contain a liquid lipstick that is meant to match the lip liner.
Both of them have a small and precise doe foot applicator.
On the left is Makeup Revolution and on the right is Barry M. The Makeup Revolution liquid lipstick is very sticky to wear which is very uncomfortable. It is also quite thick in consistency. On the other hand, the colour of the Barry M Liquid Lipstick is a lot lighter than the lip liner. It is also very runny in consistency and during application it was very messy. I had to blend out the lipstick on my lips because it gathered around the edges and looked unflattering. However, it is a lot more comfortable and lighter to wear.
The Barry M kit claims to be non drying, long lasting, easy to apply and gives you a bold finish and Makeup Revolution claims that their kit is long lasting with an intense finish. I agree that the Barry M one is non drying and easy to apply. As for how long they last, I found that both of them lasted for around 5 hours before the colours had faded. I also agree that both of them have an intense finish. Another thing I did notice was that the colour of the products weren't the same as the colour advertised on the box. I realised this when I used the Makeup Revolution one for the first time and a lot of people commented on my post saying that they agreed. I noticed it with both of them which was disappointing.

Overall, I prefer the Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit to the Makeup Revolution Luxe Retro Matte Lip Kit. The formula and consistency is a lot nicer and it feels more comfortable to wear. In terms of price, the Barry M one is £6.99 and the Makeup Revolution one is £6. These are both available in Superdrug.

Have you tried one of these lip kits? Tell me in the comment section below what you think of them!
