Iconic Smokey is Here
Introducing a drugstore dupe for the Naked Smokey Palette by Urban Decay; the 12 shade Makeup Revolution 'Iconic Smokey' palette, £6, takes you from day to night with 'highly pigmented and blendable shades' in a vast range of shades for the ultimate smokey eye. Iconic Smokey is here...
Like most of the Makeup Revolution palettes, this product is packaged in a cardboard box with the stand out 'Smokey' name written in a smoked pattern, really suiting the theme of the palette.
The actual case of the palette is a shiny black case with the gold lettering across the front, a signature style for Makeup Revolution.
Inside the palette there is a clear plastic sheet with the shade names printed on and this also protects the eye shadows. I love these shade names, I think they're appropriate for the corresponding shade.
Also inside the palette is a large built-in mirror and a duo ended brush. This brush is the Pro 1970 duo ended brush and one side is a fluffy end to blend out the colours and the other side is a flat brush to pack on colour to the eyes.
There is a balanced combination of shimmer, satin and matte finishes. The first four shades have a decent amount of shimmer to them, the middle four are more satin-based and the last four are clearly matte ideal for the crease and transitioning colours.
For the £6 price tag of the palette, the pigmentation of the eyeshadows are fairly decent, they have nice opacity and the consistencies are smooth. Each shade is easy to blend, some are more crumbly than others but in general there isn't any fallout during application.
Even though most shades in the palette are quite dark and dramatic, I wanted to create a softer smokey eye to show the versatility of this palette.
Firstly, buff the shade 'Flicker; through the crease and blend up towards the brow bone.
Next, use the shade 'Steam' to deepen the crease, concentrating on the outer half of the crease.
All over the lid, apply the shade 'Light' and soften the join between the lid and crease colour.
To add a bit more of a smokey effect, blend the shade 'Haze' through the outer half of the crease using circular motions to fluff the colour out.
Finally apply a tiny amount of 'Shadow' on the outer corner to add some depth. Make sure all harsh lines are blended out.
Then to finish off the look you can go ahead and apply the inner corner highlight using the lightest shade in the palette and then apply your liner and mascara.
Overall, this palette is great if you're looking for a cheaper alternative for the Urban Decay Naked Smokey palette. For a fraction of the price, you can't go wrong with Iconic Smokey. The colour pay off of the shadows and the application was quite good too. They stayed in place for hours without fading or creasing.
